28 Years Later's interesting casting calls throughout the filming

What are you going to do with those, Danny?

There have been a few interesting casting calls for Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later. The filming wrapped up in late July, so now is a perfect time to look back at some interesting casting calls.

Candy Marlowe, the second assistant director in charge of crowd scenes, was likely looking to fill hundreds of paid roles. She was looking for a range of fit outdoor types of all ages who are used to fresh air, the elements, and the great outdoors. She would list gardeners, farmers, sea fishermen, wild swimmers, mountain climbers, and even families who live “off-grid”. She pointed out that physicality is important to get the movement correct in crowd scenes and was planning to also approach local gymnasts and dance groups. It certainly sounds like these were the roles that would portray the infected in perhaps low-action scenes, due to no age requirement as well as the occupations she listed, where half of them don't automatically assume good cardio.

The next one they put out was a call to all ultramarathon runners, serious cyclists, and triathletes, as well as anyone else with a lean, strong physique. These roles would most likely fulfill the roles of infected in crowded action scenes where a lot of chasing would take place.

A new call was made, and Marlowe revealed they were urgently looking for a newborn baby or babies - ideally two babies, or even twins that could role-share. The filming would only take 5 hours.

Another separate call was made where they were looking for two more babies, newborns of either gender or babies that could pass for newborns. The filming would be for two days this time.

The interesting thing to note is that there were no age limits for the applications. Are we potentially going to see infected children and babies, or are they just going to be survivors who may or may not be part of a community?
