Jambi, a zombie movie in Malayalam (a language from India), is coming in 2026. As always, we welcome any and all zombie movies, especially those that have the potential to shake up the formula a bit.
Unfortunately, we cannot share a whole lot of details about the movie today. What we can share is that Jambi will be directed by George Kora and feature the actress Pearle Maaney.
The movie will be scripted by Nandhu Manoj, Harikrishnan K.R., and George Kora. Sophia Paul, known for her work as a producer on acclaimed movies such as Bangalore Days, Minnal Murali, and RDX, will produce the project under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters.
Weekend Blockbusters has shared a cool, stylized sort of teaser for you to check out.
The teaser features what appears to be an oracle (velichappadu) in the middle of a crowd, with an intense background score. Velichappandu translates to “Revealer of Light”, and is the oracle or mediator between a deity and devotees at a Hindu temple. It seems like Jambi is a zombie movie leaning more towards black magic, or voodoo, but reflecting its own cultural and regional identity.
They also provide the flavor text, "Welcome to a universe like no other! In a world where the past refuses to rest, the Z̶o̶m̶b̶i̶e̶… JAMBI will rise."
With the word "Zombie" crossed out and replaced with “Jambi”, one can assume that Jambi will be the in-universe name for the zombies or that it is different from the regular zombie.
Jambi may also be a form of linguistic borrowing, like the word “Zombie” becoming “Zonbi” in Japanese, to fit the language's syllabary system. There is no information on google that can provide hints on what Jambi means, so we will have to wait and see.
Regardless, Jambi certainly seems to bring something new to the table, and we are looking forward to more information.
