According to Deadline, Milla Jovovich is set to star in Romero's final installment of the Living Dead franchise, Twilight of the Dead. Alongside Milla Jovovich is Betty Gabriel (from the movie Get Out).
If you're a sucker for good zombie makeup effects, you will also be happy to hear that Greg Nicotero will create and lead the makeup effects department. If that name doesn't tell you anything, he began his career on Romero's Day of the Dead (1985), under the tutelage of Romero himself and the makeup effect veteran Tom Savini. He went on to serve as a special makeup effects supervisor and primary director on two small AMC TV shows you may have heard of, called The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. His special makeup effects studio, KNB EFX Group, has done work on over 400 movie and show projects and has won numerous awards.
According to Twilight of the Dead's director, Brad Anderson, he teared up at the end when reading the script, stating it “has that kind of pull, that combo of horror and heartbreak that I love.”
Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, the wife of the late George Romero and founder of the George A. Romero Foundation, kind of confirms it will be the last movie in the Living Dead franchise, with this quote:
“It is with great pleasure to work with my partners at Roundtable to finally get the last of George A. Romero’s The Dead canon out to the fans,” and continues to put trust in Anderson as a director: "It’s what the fans have longed for, and with Brad Anderson at the helm it will be sensational."
Deadline reports, however, that the team has not shut down the possibility of more zombie movies in a new franchise. This also soft confirms that Queens of the Dead by Tina Romero is not strictly part of the Living Dead franchise.
The production is being lined up for March 2025.
